Join the Sustainability Office and Sustainable Campus Initiative for Waterloo's fifth annual Eco-Summit. We are excited to bring together a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and community partners to build relationships, inspire action, and celebrate progress.

This year's event will focus on building commitment for campus sustainability. It will feature Tom Ewart from The Co-operators as the keynote speaker, case studies of research and initiatives happening at Waterloo, with opening remarks from James Rush, incoming Vice President, Academic & Provost at the University of Waterloo.

Tom Ewart

Tom Ewart, Sr Sustainability Manager at the Cooperators

Tom Ewart is the Senior Manager of Sustainability at The Co-operators Group. He and his team help the organization realize its vision of catalyzing a sustainable society.

Prior to joining The Co-operators, Tom was the founding Managing Director of the Network for Business Sustainability (NBS), a non-profit organization that enables business sustainability by fostering collaboration between research and practice. At NBS, Tom delivered on a wide range of responsibilities, including helping to raise over $3m, recruiting over 1,600 members and crafting over 30 partnerships, managing 9 major research projects and publishing 20 major research reports, delivering over 35 invited presentations from Paris to Denver to Toronto, and organizing 12 events, while managing budgets and reporting to key stakeholders.

Alongside his work at NBS, Tom taught business sustainability courses in the University of Waterloo's Centre for Environment and Business, and in the University of Western Ontario's Masters of Environment and Sustainability program.

Tom graduated from the University of Western Ontario as a gold medalist in the Engineering Faculty and as an Ivey Scholar from the Richard Ivey School of Business. In 2015, he was recognized as an Emerging Leader by Canada’s Clean50.
