EcoHouse Design Challenge

Show us your creative side!  The Alberta Chapter – CaGBC introduces the EcoHouse Design Challenge on behalf the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and Suncor Energy, partners in recycling for Wood Buffalo.

What is the Challenge?

Design a house for RRRibbitt, Wood Buffalo’s recycling mascot, that showcases eco-friendly systems, design, materials and ongoing household tips using repurposed “camp trailers” as the starting point for his new house.

RRRibbitt is a well-established cartoon character and mascot who is the official ‘voice’ of waste diversion in Wood Buffalo. RRRibbitt, who resonates well with both children and adults, is passionate about being a good environmental steward. His current “house” is a virtual one on a lily pad and it is time for RRRibbitt to move.

RRRibbitt wants his new “house” to educate RMWB children and families on how they can reduce and reuse even more products than they are doing today.  He wants a fun and creative design, but wants to use it to promote his life work – to make Wood Buffalo the most eco-friendly community.

Seeing so many “camp trailers” being dumped or abandoned, he wants to see how these could be repurposed as the “bones” of his new house.  Beyond that, RRRibbitt is looking for creative, innovative solutions to his living space that also acts as a “living museum” to tell a story about recycling materials as well as repurposing materials and buying new items made from recycled materials.

The project allows participants, residents and the community of Fort McMurray to explore green, environmentally responsible living. The design solution should showcase natural building products and environmentally friendly technologies, some of which will be value-added products derived from Albertas regional materials.
