Event description
The World Trade Centre Toronto (WTC-T) is organizing a market education series on the e-commerce landscape in Latin America

About this event

The World Trade Centre Toronto (WTC-T) is organizing a market education series for Canadian companies to capitalize on Latin America’s vast digital consumer market through e-commerce.

Our market education series provides a comprehensive overview and first approach to the Latin American market and eCommerce landscape. After the forum, you will be able to better understand the barriers to entry, identify concrete export opportunities available, and assess your initial market readiness.

This is a unique opportunity for Canadian companies interested in selling their products through eCommerce and retailers in Latin America and want to learn more about the challenges and opportunities that are present when entering.

Forum Highlights

• Market Overview - A socio-economic overview of the market, including top sector trends, opportunities, and risks.

• Entry Methods - Understand different entry requirements, the legal framework to operate in the market, and the key exporting strategies available.

• Considerations- An overview of the key taxation and trade barrier considerations and steps to take for export success.

• Success Stories – Hear from Canadian companies on their export success and how they’ve successfully sold and scaled their product or service internationally.

• Upcoming Workshops & Missions – Learn about the next stages of our programming and how you can register for our upcoming e-Commerce Trade Mission to Latin America in 2021.

Eligibility Guidelines for companies

• Trade-ready Canadian companies who are interested in selling their products through the largest e-commerce platforms and retailers in Latin America.

• Industry associations and service providers interested in connecting to and building relationships with high-growth Canadian brands.

Why Latin America?

• As members of the Pacific Alliance, Peru, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico collectively create the eighth largest economy in the world. These countries account for 38% of Latin America’s GDP, have a combined population of 225 million, comprising 50% of total trade in the region and 45% of all FDI.

• Mexico is the second-largest economy in Latin America with a market of 130 million people. It is one of Canada´s key trading partners since the ratification of NAFTA in 1994 and the relationship has recently been strengthened by the CUSMA agreement in effect since July of this year. Internet users account for 70% of the population, and the e-commerce sector is expected to grow by 6.5% in the next 4 years.

• Thanks to its strategic location, Colombia acts as a bridge between North and South American countries and is a party to many free trade agreements. These agreements secure preferential access to more than 60 countries worldwide and 1.5 billion consumers.

• Chile, also known as the Switzerland of LATAM, is one of the most promising investment destinations, with its stable and prosperous upper-middle-class economy. Its government is one of the richest governments in Latin America.

Program overview

• Panel discussion and education about the main socio-economic trends, opportunities, and risks from best-in-class subject matter experts in Latin America

• Presentations from in-market experts on entry methods, legal frameworks, taxation, trade barrier considerations, and key exporting strategies
