Event description

Description

Edmonton area Executive Directors, join your peers in a casual atmosphere where leaders can connect, learn, and break down silos.

Wine & Wisdom is your chance to network with fellow Executive Directors & CEOs to exchange insight and stories about your experiences in the nonprofit sector. We believe that regular networking is essential to creating a strong non-profit sector and affecting change in our communities.

Don't miss this opportunity to join your peers in a comfortable atmosphere and pick their brains on the issues non-profit leaders face in the nonprofit sector.

The Speakers

At this edition of ED Networking, leaders will be gathering around the topic of self-care for non-profit leaders. Leading the conversation will be Ione Challborn, Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Edmonton Region, and Sheila Hallett, Executive Director of the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council.

Ione Challborn is the Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Edmonton Region. Prior to this, she was a consultant with Challborn Communications, Program Manager with the Workers’ Compensation Board, Executive Director of Edmonton Women’s Shelter and Executive Director with the Yellowhead Emergency Shelter for Women. She is a member of the Deans’ Advisory Committee on Sexual Minority Studies at the University of Alberta, the Edmonton Suicide Prevention Implementation Strategy, United Way Alberta, Community Mental Health Action Plan. She is the chair of the United Way Funded Partner Network.

Ione earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. She attended the Max Bell Foundation’s Public Policy Training Institute in 2013.

Sheila Hallett began working as the Executive Director of the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council (ESCC) in 2006 after seven years as director of a local senior centre. In her time with ESCC Sheila has built strong partnerships with organizations that serve and support seniors. ESCC supports and facilitates collaborations that enhance seniors’ quality of life such as Age Friendly Edmonton (partnering with the City of Edmonton) and the Pan-Edmonton Group Addressing the Social Isolation of Seniors. She is passionate and committed to equity and inclusion of older citizens because she has experienced the benefits of shared experiences and insights.

Wine & Wisdom is open to all Edmonton area non-profit Executive Directors and CEOs, and will be of particular interest to leaders of human services organizations. We encourage organizations to share this invitation with other Executive Directors/CEOs in your network.

"People talk about bike riding when they want to remind us that some things, once learned, are not forgotten.
What they don't mention is how we learned. No one learns to ride a bike from a book, or even a video.
You learn by doing it.
Actually, by not doing it. You learn by doing it wrong, by falling off, by getting back on, by doing it again."
- Seth Godin
