Description

You are invited!

Please join us on June 25, 2017 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Callingwood Farmers' Market (6655 178 Street NW, Edmonton in the Safeway Farmers' Market) to participate in an Interactive Drop-In Session for the Edmonton Seniors Centres Strategy project.

About the Edmonton Seniors Centres Strategy

The City of Edmonton has a Seniors Centres Plan (2011-2021) that provides direction on potential future capital requirements of existing seniors’ centres, recommendations to address seniors’ needs in areas of the city where seniors’ centres do not currently exist, and recommendations for operational improvements to seniors’ centres and services for older adults.

To support the objectives of the Seniors Centres Plan, a comprehensive approach for the City to follow in achieving active aging outcomes through policy, programming, facilities, and funding is necessary. The Edmonton Seniors Centres Strategy is intended to do this, as well as provide future direction to meet the changing and diverse needs of upcoming cohorts of seniors.

The development of a City of Edmonton Seniors Centres Strategy is the next step. The strategy will provide structure for healthy and active aging which will be achieved through policies, programming, and funding resources.

What Is Healthy and Active Aging?

The Edmonton Seniors Centre Strategy project is an opportunity for Edmontonians, of all ages, to consider what healthy and active aging means for seniors centres.

The determinants of healthy and active aging are: (1) economic, (2) social, (3) health and social services, (4) behavioural, (5) personal, (6) physical environments, (7) gender, and (8) culture. In particular, we are looking for your ideas on how seniors’ centres can better support these determinants of active aging to achieve high quality of life in our communities.

Share Your Voice, Shape Your City - About the Public Interactive Drop-In Workshops

Join us at one of five workshops across the city to learn about the work that has been done to date, to learn more about the active aging determinants of health, emerging models for senior centre service delivery, and to identify potential opportunities to be considered.

Your input will be used to inform the development of the Edmonton Seniors Centre Strategy.

The event is a drop-in event and refreshments will be provided. All ages are welcome – because we are all getting older and a city that is friendly for seniors is a city that is friendly for all!

This event will occur at the same time as the Advancing Age Friendly Edmonton Interactive Drop-In Session. These are separate project but you are welcome to participate in both.

Please visit the project webpage to learn more about the Edmonton Seniors Centres Strategy.
