Event description
A heart-warming and fun evening to reignite an era of community deathcare and to celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost.

About this Event

At Ten Thousand Doors, we want people will be inspired to embrace and embody dying and death in ways where that wholly and meaningfully honors life and our relationship with other humans. The death positive movement is a response to and in recognition of individuals claiming to have an unmet innate need in handing the care of dying and death over to hospitals and the funeral industry. Being “with” death, will reclaim and normalize its human experience. At the end of life, it’s important for loved one and caregivers to be part of each step of the process, so that associated difficult emotions and their manifestation can be processed and resolved wholly. Personalizing celebrations, that mirror the values of our loved one, is widely accepted nowadays, because it better helps us to cope and grieve more healthfully, and it allows open expression of the meaning, purpose and importance of the lives of every human.

Those who would like to continue to honor their loved ones in ways they haven’t, couldn’t or weren’t able to, can join us for an evening event where we introduce Edmonton’s 1st Annual Community FUNeral Celebration! People from all walks of life, and all ages who have experienced dying, death, death care and living with loss and want to continue celebrating their loved one’s life, even long after death.

Sharing stories, music, and food are all culturally significant in celebrations and our community FUNeral will be inspired by sing-alongs, story telling and great food. We invite the community of Edmonton to share in an evening of karaoke to remember their loved ones by their favorite songs (and favorite funeral songs), tell stories, recite poems(or even haiku's) to share your favorite memories and stories!

WE WELCOME URNS with ASHES, DIORAMAs, COSTUMES, PERSONAL MEMENTOS, ACTUAL OR RE-WRITTEN EULOGIES or feel free to create your own stage set. But keep it simple! YOUR IMAGINATION IS YOUR ONLY LIMIT (within limits) Your ancestors are our ancestors. No, but really! This is a fun, memorable and meaningful way to re-think the way we face dying and death. That’s right! Death is normal and there are no limits to celebrating the life of people we’ve lost.
