Event description

Description

Join us for a tour of Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool to learn about the infrastructure, operations and solar energy projects at this facility.

The City of Edmonton is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing energy efficiency of our buildings, as well as integrating renewable energy. Solar panels (photovoltaic cells) convert renewable energy from the sun into electricity, offsetting a portion of a building’s electricity usage resulting in reduced greenhouse emissions and utility costs.

Construction of Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool included the installation of two rooftop solar systems - a 50 kW solar panel system used to generate electricity in addition to solar thermal collectors used to heat water. Registered guests will receive a guided tour to witness solar panels in action and learn about Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool’s many green building features.

Two tour dates are available. Registration is required by Tuesday, September 19, 2017.

Green Energy Doors Open

This tour is being hosted as part of Green Energy Doors Open (GEDO) 2017. GEDO is a showcase of sustainable energy projects and success stories in provinces across Canada. For a listing of other events happening in Edmonton and Alberta, visit the Green Energy Doors Open website.
