EdTech Brunch for Teachers: Technology and the New Curriculum
Sat, 8 April 2017, 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM PDT
Learn something you can try in your classroom on Monday… not someday!
This (FREE) event is not just about getting inspired; it’s about learning from the success and, more importantly, failure of others. We’ve spent the last 5 years helping schools with their technology initiatives and we’ve seen plenty of teachers and principals working hard to figure out things others have already learned. It’s time we get together to share common mistakes best avoided when integrating technology into your classroom, as well as practical solutions you can try right away.
We’ll start our day at 10am (because you deserve to sleep in a little on Saturday). We’ll begin with a myth-busting session where a panel of school leaders, teachers, and Classmate (that’s us!) break down some of the pesky, fear-inducing myths of implementing technology into a K-7 school, such as visioning, planning, and budgeting. It’s a practical discussion about the reality of integrating technology into your school.
Then it’s brunch -- woohoo! No cookies, pop, and paper plates for you. This is a real brunch, on real plates. And it’s on us :-) While you’re enjoying your meal, teachers will quickly present their breakout sessions so you can choose the topics that resonate with you most.
Afternoon Breakout Sessions:
After brunch, we’ll have teacher led, collaborative sessions with Classmate EdTech sidekicks helping things along the way. The sessions will focus on integrating technology into the re-designed curriculum by addressing topics such as:
Coding for students -- what it is and how to start
Going all in with Google Classroom
Student reflections & core competencies using technology
Essential apps for 1-to-1 iPad programs
Best practices in using technology for students with learning disabilities
Culture and community projects (Google Forms, Sheets, and MyMaps)
Teacher driven documentation for formative assessment
BONUS: For the technical staff member(s) on your team, we’ll be hosting discussions around managing your school’s technology infrastructure, such as GAFE Console, Jamf Pro, and Apple School Manager.
You're more than welcome to bring your own devices, but to ensure time well-spent, all of the sessions will have classroom devices for you to use. So just bring your beautiful self.
