Description

Learn how to integrate meditation into your work with youth.

The Educator Meditation Essential course is an introduction to basic secular meditation and how to integrate meditation into work with school children K-12.

Course Objectives:

You will:

  • Gain an understanding of basic secular meditation and how to work with thinking that arises while practicing meditation;
  • Be introduce to techniques for meeting and navigating intense emotions, and practices that cultivate positive state of mind like gratitude, kindness, joy and compassion;
  • Gain an understanding of the role meditation plays in communication and interactions and ways for developing their own daily sitting practice;
  • Be introduce to training kit of working with youth at different development stages; and
  • Gain an understanding of scientific research on meditation and school children as the basic neuroscience of attention and emotions.

Course Format:

You will attend two lectures and a tutorial/discussion group every week, which is directed the learning process by synthesizing emerging themes, answering questions, and providing ongoing participant feedback.

M-W-F 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm July 3 – Aug 28 / 25 classes

Context of the Course:

This is professional development course designed to present program ‘meditation in schools’ as part of contemplative education. It is largely focused on non-clinical youth populations and benefits of meditation to achieve desired outcome as academic-social-emotional learning.

Although it will provide context for school teachers, it is also designed to appeal and be accessible to others with an interest in meditation program for children (Physicians and Physician Assistants; Nurses and Nurse Practitioners; Social Workers; Psychiatrists, Psychologists; School teachers and administrators; Pastoral Counselors; Yoga Therapists; Massage Therapists and other Body Workers).

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This is adult oriented course.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

As we are located on Granville Island but closer to Cambie st., for transportation you can use transit or park near sky train Olympic Village parking lot.

What can I bring into the event?

Comfortable clothing and a favorite pillow for sit on.
