Description
We would like to welcome Congress 2016 attendees to a special screening of "Elder in the Making" in honour of the late Narcisse Blood who had worked with researchers, scientists, and museum curators across the country. Director Chris Hsiung and Co-Producer Cowboy Smithx will be in attendance to answer questions followed by an opportunity to socialize at a nearby pub (TBA).
About the Film
Two young urban dwellers, one a Blackfoot aboriginal named Cowboy and the other a Chinese-Canadian newcomer named Chris, embark on a learning journey across traditional Blackfoot territory. Through thousands of years of history guided by the wisdom of modern day elders, they find the beginnings of the long road to reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous people. Elder in the Making is an award-winning feature documentary inviting all residents of North America to explore the tragic and hopeful history of their home. Through the journey of two unlikely travel companions, this film blends history, cinematic visuals, and insights to uncovers our collective responsibility as stewards of the land and of the generations yet to come. About the organizer
CHRIS HSIUNG
An engineer turned documentary filmmaker, Chris Hsiung runs Hidden Story Productions, an organization dedicated to using documentary storytelling to nurture a more compassionate, just, and intelligent society.Chris was selected to be an Artist-in-Residence as part of the Calgary 2012 Cultural Capital selection. He produced a documentary short called The Spirit of Sport about what six different amateur athletes have learned from their sport. He also directed a participative documentary short called Flood of Change about a group of Nepalese youth who are fighting for better water and sanitation. The film was selected for the Global Justice Film Festival. Currently he is promoting his first feature-length documentary, "Elder in the Making".

Rio is a fasciliator of diverse individuals and group processes from producing and directing theatre works to managing productions and tours. With her background in film and theather, she was a part of Iniistsi Treaty Arts Society, REDx Talks, Making Treaty 7, Cree Code Talker and other major productions.
