About this event

This Fall, The Alcove Centre for the Arts (The Alcove) is hosting a variety of workshops and two editions of Raw Voices at The Grand.

Back by popular demand, from the sold out workshop in September, we are hosting another session for this beginner friendly embroidery workshop!

In this 3 hours on Sunday, December 11th from 1pm - 4pm you will learn how to get started in your embroidery practice. This includes materials used, techniques for starting and finishing, as well as project ideas. We will end off the workshop with hands on supervised practice on popular stitches. If you have some embroidery experience already, we can give you tips and tricks on how to level up you skills. The last hour will be dedicated for attendees to practice skills they have learned! All Materials will be provided.

The workshop is pay what you can! Suggested $10 - $15 to support facilitator fees and supplies.

Workshops are recommended for people ages 12 and over.

If you have any questions, please email us: info@alcoveartscentre.ca

I’m Elisa from Ellie’s Market. I am a self taught embroidery artist who started this business with my sister in 2020 during COVID. We started out embroidering people’s pets and custom design requests on our signature red handle tote bags. Now, we have expanded to embroidering a variety of custom designs on hats, wall hangings, masks, badge reels, and magnets! Embroidery is my favourite way to be creative, relax and disconnect from screens.

The Alcove is a non-profit organization that offers recreational arts spaces in Calgary, AB. We host a variety of art workshops, live showcases, and curated social spaces to encourage creativity and active participation in the arts.

Our goal is to open a full-time facility where we create a welcoming and inclusive community centred on art and creativity. Since 2021, we began hosting pop-ups to prototype the concept.
