Workshop Description:
Over 100 years ago medically unexplained pain (or Hysteria) stimulated the development of modern psychology. Physical symptoms continue to be a feature of many presenting psychological problems, especially trauma. Recent discoveries regarding the overlapping nature of trauma and pain including neurological aspects, have stimulated a reappraisal of how we understand chronic pain and how to treat it. There is increasing recognition of the need to bring the body back into psychotherapy and to better integrate therapy with mind-body functioning. With its equal attention to affective, emotional and cognitive dimensions of experience, plus a growing evidence base, EMDR presents as a promising approach.
In this webinar clinical psychologist Mark Grant will introduce you to EMDR as a treatment for chronic pain and share with you his treatment model and experience. He will share many treatment stories based on his 30 years’ experience, and demonstrate an EMDR treatment process with a chronic low back pain sufferer/emotional neglect survivor. Hopefully he will inspire you to see why although challenging, working with sufferers of trauma and pain can also be very rewarding.
