Event description

Description

Emerging Voices is a Creative Writing Conference hosted by the Students of English Literature & Film (SELF) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) and the UTSC English, creative writing, and film studies department. Taking place in the Science Wing building at UTSC, our goal is to provide students and young adults with an inexpensive and accessible conference that targets their passion for writing and the validation of literary arts as a legitimate program. This conference will provide students with the opportunity to meet and interact with a variety of professionals and students all over Toronto.

Our theme for the 2018 Emerging Voices Conference is 'Unconventional.' This theme reflects the sweeping and fundamental changes in the way that those in the literary arts define the word 'narrative.' This conference aims to challenge teh way attendants define the literary canons, and discover new ways of storytelling. Building on previous conference themes such as 'Exploring Different Mediums' and 'Creative Writing & Publishing in the Digitial Era,' this year we wish to explore the way modern politics and technology has given writers to invent new methods of conveying a narrative.

The conference is primarily targeted towards youth aged 17-24 years old, and will be held on March 3rd, 2018.
