This EMMA Talk has been curated by Tahia Ahmed!

“Feminist voices have been instrumental in shaping, reforming, and defining Islamic thought and Muslim identity. The spirit of social justice and the tradition of activism within Islam continues to inspire Muslim communities across the globe to strive for emancipation and liberation. Dr. Amina Wadud, one of the leading feminist voices of our time, has changed the way we understand the politics of gender in Islam from a pro-faith perspective. In this EMMA Talks, Amina Wadud as well as local feminist Muslim voices, Sarah Munawar, Hannah Ali, and Maisaloon Al-Ashkar, discuss the real possibility of a feminism that can find refuge in religion and how the erasure of feminism from the Islamic tradition has informed their experience of gender and spirituality. "– Tahia Ahmed, curator
