Kristin Fung, After seven years in Toronto, Vancouverite Kristin Fung’s ferocious, tender, and captivating voice as a vocalist, keyboardist, composer, and improviser traverse landscapes of “soulful grace [and] jazzy joy” (From The Intercom), and funky R&B. Her deeply earnest and uplifting originals evoke self-accompanying piano queens Alicia Keys and Patrice Rushen, showing off her powerhouse lungs and groovy piano chops.
"Transcontinental Crush" (2021) is an outerspacey midtempo ballad and "Why Don't You Dance" is her forthcoming electro-R&B single. A soulful innovator, Fung’s original performances include the TD Music Connected Series (2022), Funk N’ Mink (supported by DowntownVan, 2021), and Vancouver International Jazz Festival (2021).
What started out as a regular jam session in early 2020 between friends Emcee K Ski and Maxi Theophile Talbot evolved into a three-volume project titled Beats, Blues & Bars: a soulful fusion of blues, funk and Hip Hop. This collaboration showcases K Ski’s diverse and thought-provoking lyricism complimented by Maxi’s soulful guitar, punctuated by his powerful vocals.
Based in Vancouver BC, the duo released their first song in 2021 titled Find a Way: Live at Blue Light Studio. The overwhelmingly positive response prompted them to keep creating their unique brand of music, resulting in the release of Volume One of Beats, Blues & Bars on February 22, 2022.
