Endeavour - a collection of interpretive works inspirted by those overcoming the crisis in Syria
Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet is honoured to present it's debut performance and premiere of "Endeavour" a collection of interpretive works inspired by those overcoming the crisis in Syria. "Endeavour" begins in pre-war Syria, a place once filled with vibrant colours, bustling marketplaces; a landscape that was a beacon of prosperity. A time not that long ago, but fading with every bomb dropped, "Endeavour" moves into the startling reality that is now current day Syria; ravaged, bombarded and torn.
There is hope.
With compelling choreography from artistic director Chantelle Norris, and guest choreographers, Debbie Lee of 'DLDC' Vancouver B.C and local dance artist Kim Wallce. Along with honoured guests Ballet Victoria, Convergence Contemporary Ballet and Matthew Cluff of Les Grands Ballet Canadiens and lighting/projection design by Don Armitage; "Endeavour" will act as a fundraiser for local Syrian newcomers who struggle to find security within the challenges of relocation. Proceeds will be donated to the Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society.
"Endeavour" invites you to come share the emotional journey of Syria's past, present and future interpreted through today's emerging choreographers and youth dancers.
Listen to CHLY 101.7FM for interviews with the artistic director and dancers.
"Endeavour" will be held at the Malaspina VIU theatre in Nanaimo B.C on January 21st 2017.
