Event description
Best practices & common failures for energy retrofits. Presented by building envelope consultant Hamid Heidarli, PEng. (6 CPD, BC Housing)

About this Event

6 CPD points from BC Housing for licensed builders!

Join us for a full-day "Building a Legacy" workshop with the dynamic, engaging and knowledgeable Hamid Heidarali, P.Eng. Hamid will lead us through best practices & common failures in energy retrofits, and as always, demonstrate how to approach a project with a holistic perspective to create true high-performance.

Workshop content, anchored in key building science principles, will be of interest to a broad audience, including: builders, designers, trades, building officials and DIY renovators looking to properly perform their own energy retrofit projects.

Brought to you by the RDEK energy manager, facilitated through the Community Energy Association with the generous financial support of Fortis BC.*

Introduction:

Selecting the insulating and air tightness strategies for existing buildings, it is crucial to incorporate a holistic approach that not only supports energy efficiency targets, but that also considers moisture management, thermal comfort, long-term durability, and adaptability to future repair/renovation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Importance of a holistic approach towards building envelope energy efficiency retrofit and discerning between low energy loss and true high performance.
  • Examples of performance failures during the early stages of energy efficiency implementation in Europe and envelope assemblies that risk the overall long-term performance.
  • Examples of envelope assemblies that are energy efficient building and also effectively address moisture management, thermal comfort, long-term durability and adaptability to future repair & renovation.
  • Prepare the industry for the adoption of building envelope energy efficiency measures in existing buildings.

Workshop Format:

Registration and breakfast begin at 8:30 am. Workshop content from 9 am until 4 pm.

Breakfast, coffee breaks and lunch included in participant fee.

Presented in a highly interactive and collaborative format to make a rewarding session that's vibrant and conducive to learning, the workshop will include:

  • CEA’s mobile envelope assemblies set: wall, roof, sub-grade
  • intuitive and easy to follow PowerPoint presentation,
  • various interesting and practical case studies,
  • photographs, and a wide range of 3D drawings specifically tailored for this workshop.
  • various brainstorming sessions and group works

Participants will be encouraged to share their past experiences dealing with energy efficiency retrofit, challenges and lessons learnt.
