TEAL Manitoba presents an exciting Mini PD opportunity:

Target Audience: K-Grade 6 EAL Educators.

This hands-on workshop will explore teaching and assessment strategies. There will be two presentations:

Assessment of EAL learners in Remote Learning Contexts

Presenter: Kala Subbalakshmi

Premised on the belief assessment and instruction are closely intertwined and inform each other, this hands-on workshop will explore the imperatives of planning for instruction and assessment of language acquisition in virtual learning contexts. As such, the workshops will provide insights, tools and resources required for framing an assessment plan for EAL learners in a Virtual-learning scenario.

Subbalakshmi "Kala" Kailasanathan a Program Support Teacher with the Winnipeg School Division coaches and supports teachers across the division plan instruction for newcomer students.

Strategies Supporting Comprehension and Language Production

Presenters: Jennifer Jantz, Lianne Titchkosky

Lianne and Jennifer‘s presentation will include ideas of how the co-teaching process can be used as an effective model.  As well it will include real-life examples of strategies that we used to support comprehension and promote language production of English language learners as well as native speakers of English.  

Jennifer has been a teacher for 26 years, teaching at all levels; she has taught in New Zealand and Cambodia and her extensive travels have led to an understanding of different cultures. Currently, she is the Divisional Inclusion Teacher for the River East Transcona School Division.

Lianne has over 20 years of teaching experience, from elementary schools in Saudi Arabia to cooking classes in junior high and currently teaching grade 1 in River East Transcona School Division.
