This month, we are hosting "Enough Silence: Building Capacity and a Social Movement" as part of a program of events until Christmas. On the 18th September, 3 speakers will talk for 10 minutes on what a steady state economy means to them:

Politics: Trade unionist (currently Unite); twenty years in Labour Party until 2000 (expelled for keeping the rules); currently chair of Alliance for Green Socialism, promoting the inter-linked ideas of a fairer, non-capitalist society and the preservation of the eco-system on which we all depend.

David Midgley - Schumacher North

In 2003 he founded Sustainable Futures Leeds, an independent group working to develop and promote strategies for local sustainable development, including the formation of the Leeds Ecovillage Group and Transition City Leeds Initiative.

In 2007 he founded Schumacher North, an independent public education organisation working to promote a holistic philosophy of society based on the ideas of E.F. Schumacher, noted economist and author of 'Small is Beautiful'. With his colleagues in Schumacher North, David is active in working for a new vision of economic life based on non-violent economics, human-scale social organisation and reconnection to the natural world.
