ENSO Urban Silent Retreat

First Annual

Led by

Melissa Berry Appeton, Lena Del Mar and Danielle Prins

Three Rebel Dharma Sisters abiding within the lineage of Zen Buddhism unfolding in creative ways to serve the world -

Silent Retreats are meaningful for both new and experienced students.  An opportunity to step back from the pace of modern life demands to explore the depth of extended practice and dropping deep into silence. Silent Retreats are where students experiece a full and lasting impression, amplifying community connection and supporting practice back home.

ENSO has always dreamed of building an Okanagan retreat centre desiged specifically for residential silent retreats.  We might as well begin with what we have!  A beautiful boathouse, cushions for 30, three Zen Rebel Dharma Sisters all living within the Okanagan, and a committed practice community.  Thus we begin with a simple silent retreat.

On this weekend we will transform the boathouse and property into our Zendo and Centre of Silence encorporating Zazen (meditation), Walking, Yoga, Oryoki (mindful eating), and Art (no experience necessary).

All meditation props provided.  Chairs, benches and cushions.

It is recommended that you have some experience with meditation (through yoga, MBSR, SMART, Gentle Zen Series, and many other avenues).  Please e-mail Melissa to review if you have questions.

Fees

Sliding Fee Scale.  Please choose an amount to the best of your ability and give in the spirit of generosity.  All fees paid over 325 dollars will receive a registered tax receipt.  ENSO is a registered Canadian Charity.

Schedule

A full schedule will be sent to attendees four weeks prior to retreat start date. Remember, the day includes meditation, walking, simple yoga, eating together, work practice, rest and art.  All in silence.

Danielle Madeleine Prins

Danielle came from the coast to attend university several years ago and has been in Kelowna ever since! Spending her early youth travelling whenever and wherever she could, she now balances out her wanderlust with an emphasis on building strong roots in the Okanagan community that she has grown to love so dearly.

She is a yoga teacher, holds BSc Human Kinetics, as well as a Zen Practitioner in the Soto Zen tradition. Earlier this year, she was a resident at the Upaya Zen Centre for almost 5 months, which cultivated a greater learning, questioning, and deepening of the Zen form and what it means to truly be a part of community. She is currently a Program Coordinator for ENSO Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters, which both directly work to support youth and teens, especially within the Okanagan.
