Entrepreneurship in Energy
Event Information

► About the Event
Innovation is nothing new to the world of Energy. Can-do attitudes and technological breakthroughs have been a common theme through our energy history, spanning everything from 3-D seismic to horizontal drilling, to modern completions techniques. However, it is no secret that the entire energy industry is going through massive disruption and changes. Technologies, both digital and physical (e.g. nano, material, etc.), are opening doors to new opportunities that are step changes in performance and sustainability. The extent to which entrepreneurs push these changes will dictate our capacity to compete on the world stage into the future.
This context begs the questions:
-How much more optimization is in store for Canadian oil and gas?
-To what extent does corporate culture play a role in innovation?
-What is the role of entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Energy Industry today?
-How can the industry attract top talent away from major brain-magnet organizations in Silicon Valley given current societal views of the oil and gas industry?
Join us for an interactive discussion featuring Stuart Kinnear from Interface Fluidics and Vicki Knot from Crux OCM in a panel conversation about their experiences with start-ups and innovation in Energy!

► About the Speakers
Vicki Knott is the CEO and Co-Founder of Crux OCM. She has a full range of experience with an operational background at TransCanada Pipelines. Here she worked in commercial operations, process control engineering, and most importantly, spending significant time in the control room. A chemical engineer with a special interest in system wide operations and control. She utilized her tenacious spirit, along with advanced physics based fundamental methodologies as part of our patented machine Learning process. Closing the loop to enable full RIPA (Robotic Industrial process automation). This ensures that the front-line people (control room operators) can operate energy sector assets in the safest, most profitable way.
Stuart Kinnear is the CEO and Co-Founder Interface Fluidics. Stuart has a diverse background, having earned both an MBA in International Business, as well as an undergraduate degree in Music Performance specializing in Tuba from the University of Victoria. Prior to founding Interface Fluidics, he spent 5 years with Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL), managing their large fleet of service rigs with the supply management part of the business. Leveraging his industry and business knowledge, love for making new things (of all sorts), and creativity, he now runs a cutting-edge nanotechnology company focusing on Reservoir-On-A-Chip technology. Using this technology, Interface Fluidics is able to help their clients maximize their ultimate reservoir recovery, as well as cut their operating and capital costs.
► Giving Back
YPE Calgary has created a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) to virtually contribute back to our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through our volunteer Board and members, we hope to raise enough money to supply at least one meal for families at the RMHC Calgary House. RMHC supports families seeking vital medical treatment for their seriously ill or injured child. Click here to donate!
