“Reconciliation is not an aboriginal problem – it is a Canadian problem. It involves all of us.” – Commissioner Marie Wilson
Every February, libraries across Canada celebrate Freedom to Read Week. This annual celebration encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom and access to information. This year, EPL welcomes three participants of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Commissioners Dr. Marie Wilson and Chief Wilton (Willie) Littlechild, and Honorary Witness Shelagh Rogers.
As witnesses and collectors of survivor testimonies during the TRC, they played an important role in improving access to the truth about residential schools. The TRC calls upon us to disseminate and preserve this knowledge, and this conversation hosted by EPL will help foster reconciliation and healing. This presentation is part of EPL's Forward Thinking Speaking Series.
