Multiple Dates
Equity, Privilege, and Representation in Dance
Event Information
Description
Hosted by the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists - Ontario Chapter, in partnership with the Canadian Dance Assembly and the Toronto Dance Community Love-In.
This series picks up on the momentum generated in our workshop Anti-Oppression & Anti-Racism Practices for the Dance Community, which took place last November, and aims to support, and contribute to, the vital anti-oppression, anti-racism, and decolonial work being done in our communities, and across the province.
In Session 1 (Tuesday, April 3, 6:30 pm-9:30 pm), Raven, Leelee, and Ella will guide the group through a creative hands-on process of unpacking Indigeneity, representation, privilege and anti-racism principles, specifically geared toward the dance sector. In Session 2 (Tuesday, April 10, 6:30 pm-9:30 pm), our guest facilitators will build on Session 1, while focusing on accountability and accessible strategies for positive change that attendees can apply in their communities, organizations, and studios.
The workshop is free and open to the public. Food will be served. Both sessions will take place at Dancemakers Centre for Creation in the Michael J. Baker Studio (15 Case Goods Lane, Studio 314). The space is accessible via an elevator. While proximate washrooms have limited accessibility, fully accessible washrooms are located nearby. The venue is situated near a bus/streetcar stop at Cherry Street and Mill Street, and a bus stop at King Street and Parliament Street.
