About this event

  • 2 days 19 hours

Waterton Lakes National Parks fills a person with wonder during springtime. The park offers many opportunities for a creative photographer, from Bortle 2 class dark skies to dramatic skies and, of course, wildlife. Your renowned instructors Monika Deviat and Viktoria Haack both love shooting everything in nature, from tiny details to grand landscapes.

Waterton offers many diverse possibilities for photography! From intimate landscapes and wildflowers to the grand vista, dark skies for night photography, and an incredible diversity of abundant wildlife. We hope to inspire you to have fun creating in whatever conditions we encounter. We will offer help with night photography techniques, focus stacking, long exposures, and any other approaches or techniques participants have an interest in developing.

We're expecting to see wildlife, so your instructors will cover safety, respect for animals, and photography tips ahead of time.

Cost: 1599 + GST & Fees

50% non-refundable deposit required to secure your spot.

What's Covered?

Planning shoots, at any time of day or night is an important part of being able to create compelling and purposeful images. We'll go over weather apps, how to plan for light (or no light), scouting tips, etc.  Since it will be a great time to shoot the Milky Way, a large component of the planning discussion will be about how to find the galaxy and when it is best to photograph it. Techniques for aurora borealis, star trails and light painting can also be covered.

This workshops allows for participants to try a lot of techniques if they choose. Some subjects like night photography require working in manual mode, while for others we can use semi-automatic modes as well. We will go over ISO, white balance, aperture choices, and shutter speeds. Different methods of focusing will be covered for each subject we will be shooting. During the landscape shoots for example, we'll go over focus stacking, bracketing, long exposures, depth of field, panoramas and more.

Safety & Leave No Trace

These are very important topics for photographers to be knowledgable about in order to preserve the places we love to visit, keep wildlife wild and make sure you stay safe and (mostly) comfortable on your adventures.
