Event description

Description

The McGill Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship is organizing its second annual AI event on the Ethics in Artificial Intelligence on Thursday, March 22 from 6pm to 8pm in the Leacock Building - Room 132. Last year’s event drew over 400 people where we explored the business of AI.

Join us as we explore the following questions below. The event will focus on two primary themes:

1) Limitations of current ML systems along the lines of dispelling misunderstandings of exaggerated claims (eg. Sophia robot) which will act as a segue into discussing specific technical challenges in different areas of research and application today (eg. natural language generation). We would also like to explore the notions around ML Security (https://cleverhans.io) and adversarial examples as they relate to "understanding" by the ML systems.

2) Ethical development of AI - driven by concrete examples (YouTube Kids, fake voice - Lyrebird, fake videos - synthesizing Obama ) discussing how we can orient research and industrial efforts to minimize societal damage from the misuse of ML systems. What are some practical ideas that can translate things like the Montreal Ethical AI Declaration into actionable points for researchers, developers, etc?

The discussion will be moderated by Abhishek Gupta. He is an AI Ethics researcher interested in creating ethical, safe and inclusive AI systems.

Speakers to be announced soon.

-----

The event is free of charge and open to both students and the general public, however, capacity is limited. Please register on Eventbrite to secure a ticket. Seating will be on a first come, first serve basis!
