CURRENT EXHIBITION:

FASHIONING EXPO 67

March 17 to October 1, 2017

The exhibition Fashioning Expo 67 invites visitors to enter the world of Expo 67 and experience the effervescence of Montreal’s fashion moment. The exhibition will feature over 60 outfits —hostess uniforms from various pavilions, clothing by Quebec designers— and products from every sector of the Canadian fashion industry, including hats, gloves, umbrellas, purses, jewellery, and even fur.

The different sections of the exhibition will also display drawings, photographs, archival film footage, and documents. In addition, there will be videos of interviews that the Museum conducted with several designers from the era.

ILLUSIONS: THE ART OF MAGIC

26 May 2017 – 21 January 2018

The exhibition will take on the period of magic shows’ golden age and its advertising and promotional mechanisms that relied on phantasmagoric imagery. A selection of breathtaking posters, mostly dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, will retrace the social history of this still active phenomenon. These posters, halfway between art and advertisement, are magnificent, large format chromolithographs that immortalise the magicians and the acts that marked the world of modern magic.

JAYCE SALLOUM - LOCATION/DIS-LOCATION(S): BEYOND THE PALE

8 September - 12 November 2017

Focusing on the theme What Does the Image Stand For? proposed by guest curator Ami Barak, MOMENTA | Biennale de l’image presents Jayce Salloum – location/dis-location(s): beyond the pale in collaboration with the McCord Museum.

The installation location/dis-location(s): beyond the pale consists of photographs extracted from archives that Salloum has been building since 1979 from his travels around the world. Mixing quotidian collecting with personal and public documents he takes on questions of conflicted territories, states of nature and being, the nation state, social manifestations, and crises of modernity.
