Event description

Description

This one day leadership training event will equip those who attend to become Ananias trainers for their parishes...

The $100 fee covers the cost of course material.

Here is a brief description of the goals and purpose of the training.

What if our parishes, our homes and our apostolates were places where we able to recognize the stages of another's spiritual journey through compassionate listening?

  • respond lovingly to their real questions and opinions about God, in the context of the person’s own spiritual journey?
  • talk about our relationship with God?
  • share how we came to be a disciple of Jesus?
  • share Jesus’ own story in response to the spiritual hunger of another?

The goal of Ananias Training is to help parishes, homes and apostolates become places where all of the above is normal.

The name, Ananias Training, is inspired by Ananias of Damascus, to whom Saul was sent after he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:10-19).

Ananias Training is designed to form parishioners with no previous training in “the art of spiritual accompaniment.” Ananias Training is process-driven: utilizing Scripture reflection (principally lectio divina alone and in small groups), video, and facilitated discussion to form “Ananiases”.

Ananias Training forms individuals to effectively listen to another’s story to identify the clues to one’s spiritual journey and see how God is already active, inviting the individual into a relationship with him.

In response, “Ananiases” can:

¨ Share their story in a way that helps the other “connect the dots” in their own

¨ Similarly share Jesus’ story

¨ Challenge the other to take the next step

The goal is not to establish an Ananias Ministry but to form a people equipped to be Ananias to one another within the Church as well as to those in the world, within the context of one’s own charisms and personal vocation.

This training was especially helpful for:

¨ RCIA team members

¨ Small group and table leaders of all types

¨ Called & Gifted interviewers and small group leaders

¨ Ministers to the sick and homebound

¨ Parishioners who desire the confidence and skills to share their faith with family, friends, co-workers, etc.
