Event description

Description

Point in Time (PiT) Counts are one-day snapshots of homelessness that capture numbers and basic demographics of people who are staying in emergency shelters, short-term supportive housing, facilities such as hospitals, and on the streets. This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada's Homelessness Partnering Strategy.

Who is needed: We will need over 100 volunteers to help with the street count. Volunteers must be able to walk for up to 3 hours in variable outdoor conditions.

What volunteers will do: With their teams, volunteers will walk through a pre-assigned area of Calgary and complete surveys with people who are experiencing homelessness.

Time commitment: Volunteers must complete a two-hour training the week before the count (there are multiple training sessions available). On the night of the count, Wednesday April 11, 2018, volunteers will register at PiT Headquarters (at City Hall) from 8:00pm-8:30pm. After a short program and pizza dinner, volunteers will complete the street count from 10:00pm-midnight.

Location: Training sessions will take place at the Crossroads Building on the 2nd Floor, 316 7 Ave SE.

The PiT Count registration and the evening program will occur at City Hall at 800 Macleod Trail SE
