Description

Calling all Animal Crazy Kids Grades 4-6!

Camp Fur, Fins & Feathers is a place where kids connect with animals. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for children to interact and learn about the animals that share our world. An enthusiastic staff of instructors and friendly animals give your child an enriching experience filled with hands-on animal encounters, fun activities, and crafts. As they have fun, campers learn respect, compassion, and how to provide a lifetime of care for animals.

Campers are grouped according to the grade they will enter in the fall: Grades 1-3, Grades 4-6 or Grades 7-9. Activities are age and developmentally appropriate. For those campers who want to attend multiple weeks of camp, we have a different theme each week, ensuring diverse experiences.

Our younger campers will learn about animal characteristics, behavior and proper pet care. Campers meet and pet bunnies, cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and more! As our campers get older, they will have more sophisticated learning opportunities including behind the scenes tours, more in-depth animal interactions, enriching games, and volunteer and career exploration.

- Children will be provided with the opportunity to eat a small snack or enjoy a drink at both mid-morning and mid-afternoon. If your child’s medical condition requires them to eat or drink at certain times please alert our camp staff prior to your child’s camp week.

- The Calgary Humane Society is NOT a peanut-free facility however we do request that parents avoid packing peanut products for the safety of all of our campers.

Will my child spend most of the day working directly with animals?

Everything we do at camp is aimed at teaching children about animal care, handling, and welfare. We strive to give our campers an opportunity to interact with several animals each day. However, we are an open-door animal shelter which cares for all animals including some that may be sick, injured, and sometimes aggressive. Our ability to have kids interact with animals relies entirely on the types of animals who are in residence during the camp season. Our two top priorities are to provide our campers with a safe experience and to prevent our resident animals from any undue stress. Some animals simply cannot handle the attention of fifteen children at a time and we endeavor to teach the children to respect the needs of each individual animal. That being said, when a gentle bunny, kid-loving dog, or playful bunch of kittens comes through the shelter, the camp kids are definitely given the opportunity to interact with them. In addition, activities like dog training and animal socializing with guest animal ambassadors are the highlight of the week for many of our campers.

Please note: Activities are age specific. Animal interaction is dependent upon animal health on a day-to-day basis.
