Event description

Description

The Clearly Musical Home Concert Series, hosted by Joanna Grace, features musicians in up-close experiences in the Heart of Richmond Hill. These concerts bridge the gap between audiences and performers. You will have the opportunity to clearly see and hear the performance and ask questions to learn more about the music and the pianist Chris Au!

ABOUT CHRIS AU

Celebrated for his ‘intimate dialogue between him...and the audience’ (Barrie Examiner), and Prizewinner of the 2016 Shean Piano Competition, Chris Au is an acclaimed concert pianist who is passionate about serving the arts in society. Born in Hong Kong but raised in Sydney, Australia, he began serious studies at the age of 14 upon his acceptance in the studio of renowned Australian pedagogue Margaret Hair. He has since received accolades such as the 2010 Sydney Eisteddfod Recital Award.

His progress was significantly hindered for a few years when Chris was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 16. Under the care of Dr. Jeffrey Chaitow and thanks to subsidies from the Australian Government, he continues to take a weekly biologic injection that keeps his condition under control.

His first musical experience overseas brought him to Germany, where he won the Audience First Prize at the 2010 Klaviersommer Bad Bertrich whilst under the tutelage of Professor John Perry. Inspired by this experience, Chris began to pursue a career in music.

Chris is a frequent participant at summer festivals including the Banff Centre, the International Holland Music Sessions, and the Kawai Sydney International Piano Festival. He has had the great opportunity to work with legendary artists such as Menahem Pressler, Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, Marc Durand, Marietta Orlov, and Robert McDonald.

Chris Au's inspired performances have secured multiple re-engagements particularly at the Barrie Concert Association, where he is a regular guest artist of the Midday with Shigeru Concert Series, as well as their Pianofest. Upcoming appearances include a Piano Four-Hands concert with Antoine Laporte in May 2018.

Chris is currently finishing his Artist Diploma studies with John Perry and David Louie, and is generously sponsored by the Full-Tuition Joan and Jerry Lozinski Scholarship.
