Facilitators: Adeline Huynh

Description:

This interactive workshop takes learners on a deep dive to explore racism and white supremacy in our daily lives, including our workplaces. Through a brief review of resources and historical context, reflection, discussion, and skills-building activities, this training will provide participants with a critical lens to recognize how racism manifests in our systems of power and in our everyday interactions. Learners will also be introduced to tools and resources that will support them to become better allies by building communities of belonging.

Topics:

  • Intersectionality & Anti-Oppression (Power, Privilege, Oppression, Allyship)
  • Implicit Bias & Microaggressions
  • Creating and Supporting Communities of Belonging
  • Anti-Blackness and Anti-Indigenous Racism in the post-secondary context
  • Tools to have Difficult Conversations & Manage “Sticky” Situations

Learning Outcomes:

  • Be able to apply key concepts related to institutional and interpersonal racism in the workplace.
  • Understand how bias and stereotypes impact BIPOC’s sense of belonging, and their success.
  • Recognize Whiteness, Power, and Privilege, and how it contributes to racial oppression both consciously and unconsciously.
