Description

You can do so much with modern watercolours! From trying unique grounds to mono-printing.. Discover which GOLDEN grounds make the most suitable surfaces for watercolours and how to use them effectively. Be inspired by Ashley Gaboury to create one-of-a kind textural paintings. Learn how to make mono-prints and “ghost” prints. This workshop is a great way to loosen up your style with bright beautiful watercolours and ignite/reaffirm your love for the medium. Supplies Included!

Note: We will take a short break for lunch.

Discover what QoR Watercolor can do on a variety of Golden surfaces. Begin with traditional watercolour techniques using QoR Watercolor, then move on to more contemporary ideas. Techniques will include an assortment of applications such as: pouring, staining, granulation, blooms, splash, and “white-out” tricks.

Attendees will also learn how to take advantage of GOLDEN and QoR Grounds to create myriad surfaces for their work: from paper-like surfaces with the QoR Grounds, to utilizing unique substrates such as wood panels, fabrics, and plastics with GOLDEN Grounds.

INSTRUCOR BIO: Ashley Gaboury, BFA, GAE

Even before graduating with a BFA in Studio Arts in 2003 at The University of Lethbridge, I worked as an instructor at The Prairie Art Gallery in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Over the past nineteen years I've established myself as a 2-dimensional art instructor, while simultaneously developing as a professional artist. Exuding enthusiasm and passion about drawing, I am continually pushing the boundaries within my artwork. I create in a myriad of mediums including but not limited to watercolour pencils, alcohol-based markers, acrylics and mixed media.

Although my artwork has transitioned immensely over the years, the common thread has been my dedication to aestheticism and balance. Utilizing watercolour techniques with acrylics on canvas I am able to imbue each piece with my high-contrast, low-key aesthetic. The bulk of my work has spiritual undertones, often playing with the dualism of light and dark, and the dichotomy of good and evil.

In addition, my work in alcohol-based markers has been a major part of my career as an instructing artist. I've created a series of Modern Markers workshops, wherein I instruct teens and adults how to use Copics and other alcohol-based markers. Spirit animals and portraits being predominant subject matters.
