Description

Join us for an interactive workshop on how to navigate difficult conversations and ensure we are advocating for ourselves. Please bring your business cards, a notebook and an appetite for cheese, bread and treats. Drinks will be available to purchase.

This event will be facilitated by Leah Hamilton and her colleague, Christian Cook.

About the speakers:

Leah Hamilton is Associate Professor in the Department of Management and Human Resources, Bissett School of Business; and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, University of Calgary. She teaches Organizational Behaviour, Leadership Development, and Research Methods for Business. Leah is a community-engaged scholar whose program of research focuses on the social and economic integration of immigrants and refugees in Canada. She frequently collaborates on projects commissioned by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, and Government of Alberta. She has extensive experience conducting community-based research with the settlement sector. Her research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. In 2017 she was the recipient of a Distinguished Faculty Award at Mount Royal University.


Christian Cook is an Assistant Professor in the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University. She specializes in human resources (HR) and teaches Employee Relations and Strategic HR Management, where she leverages community service learning and community partnerships to guide students to achieve program learning outcomes. Christian's professional and industry experience is also in the domain of human resources; she has held the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation for over 15 years. Christian collaborates with industry and academic partners to conduct research in several areas connected to HR, including leadership development and emerging leaders, mentorship, and transformational learning. In 2017, Christian received the Teaching Excellence Award from the Mount Royal University Faculty Association.
