Crash course on the Casein technique.
Casein paint also called milk paint was used both by artists and commercial painters. It is a fast drying medium miscible with water which enables a whole range of opaqueness and/or transparency. The technique is especially suitable for artists who might be allergic to chemicals present in other artists’ materials. Casein, because it dries matté can be used as an underpainting for tempera, oil and acrylic. It is also extensively used for executing murals, decorating furniture etc. since with time it becomes insoluble. It can also be varnished for a more glossy finish.
There will be a brief outline of casein painting history accompanied with historical and contemporary examples.
The class is limited to 10 participants. Materials are supplied.
