Impressionist paintings are dynamic, full of movement and exceptionally beautiful. Colour is a priority in impressionist painting. The appearance of colour is owed to the existence of light. The impressionist artists were trying to observe and capture the true colour of light in their artworks. In this course, students will gain confidence and understanding by learning colour mixing and painting techniques. Students will work mainly from photographs depicting a scene with a strong sense of light and shadow. Emphasis will be on achieving a sense of form, volume and spatial depth using different painting methods of impressionist artists. Students will choose to work in acrylic or watercolour paints. The course is designed for all levels of skills and capabilities. A material list will be provided.
