This course consists of (two) visits to the AGO (a whole day, Saturday and/or during a week)
The Day One will be dedicated to explore the Old Masters. Day Two is devoted to the contemporary collection (including the Group of Seven artists).
The instructor/guide will point out basic characteristics of major art styles (Renaissance, Baroque etc.) as reflected in individual works of art, place them within their historical/political context and touch upon their specific subject matter (iconography). For contemporary works we will start with the Impressionists, and will discuss why certain pictorial elements, valid for centuries, were outright rejected by the contemporary artists. This course is not a lecture tour, but an engaging interactive discussion and would be of equal interest to practicing artists as it would be to art history buffs. Subject to interest an additional meeting can be scheduled at the School to have a “round table discussion”.
