The Family Supports Institute Ontario presents Module 6 Facilitating Connections with the Local Community

About this event

MODULE 6 Facilitating Connections with the Local Community, Including Schools- What Does It Take?

Family support programs do not need to be isolated entities within a community, but rather vibrant hubs at the centre of community life that are connected to schools and other community services. In this module, participants will explore concrete strategies for building community ties with an emphasis on local schools and other community resources that will enrich and support families’ lives.

Bio: Valerie Kenny, B.A., (University of Toronto), Early Childhood Studies (Ryerson University)

Valerie first came to experience the Family Support approach as a young parent in the throes of a post-partum depression after the birth of her first child in 1978. Such was the transformative experience that she had during her participation in a Family Resource Program that it led to a deep and lasting belief in and passion for the work that endured for over 35 years. She is no less committed to the field of Family Support today and has been a board member of the Family Supports Institute Ontario intermittently since 1995.
