Description

A three-part lecture series sponsored by CorPath.ca and Ambrose.edu

#1 - Theology of Work: Experiencing God through the Architecture of a Library

March 11th 7:00PM - 8:30PM
Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall
New Central Library, 800 3 Street SE

Calgary’s New Central Library is the work of many hearts, hands, and minds. Without civic leaders, architects, engineers, and trades, this beautiful building would not exist. Without God’s gift of work most of what fills our city would not exist. Through work Calgary flourishes. This lecture will explore how God can be known and experienced through the work of those who built this library, and through the work that you do.

#2 - Theology of Work: Engaging the Mind of God through a Library

March 18th 7:00PM - 8:30PM
Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall
New Central Library, 800 3 Street SE

Calgary’s New Central Library is a repository of knowledge. Every book, website or database is the product of years, decades or centuries of thoughtful human work. In a Christian worldview all knowledge is sourced in the mind of God. Science, art, sport, business, history, education and politics are God’s idea. This lecture will unpack God’s truth as its found on a library’s shelves so that you can better experience God through the work you do.

#3 - Workshop: Knowing God through the Parable of Your Job

March 23rd 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Commons Church - Kensington Parish
2404 Kensington RD NW

God is more present at your work than you know, and God wants you to know that. God created work so that you could experience his presence through the things you do: creating, fixing, managing, advocating, serving, building, solving, shaping, teaching, cleaning, etc. What you do best images a working God. This Saturday workshop will give you theological and practical tools for better engaging God at your workplace.

#about John Van Sloten

John Van Sloten is a Calgary pastor, teacher and writer. For over 20 years he’s been living into a worldview that seeks to discern God’s voice in all things. John’s first book, The Day Metallica Came to Church; Searching for the Everywhere God in Everything (2010), looks for glimpses of God in pop culture. His second book, Every Job a Parable; What Walmart Greeters, Nurses and Astronauts tell us about God (2017), listens for God’s words at work. John has received two John Templeton Foundation sub-grants to explore preaching science. www.johnvansloten.com
