Event description

Description

The Mineral Exploration Knowledge & Skills Seminar Series is back for 6 events this autumn. Seminars will take place on Sept 18, Oct 2, Oct 16, Oct 30, Nov 13, and Nov 27. They take place in the Seminar Room (ES 2093) of the Earth Sciences Centre at the University of Toronto. Doors open at 4:45 pm and the presentations begin at 5:15 pm. Pizza will be served mid-way through each seminar and the cost of pizza is included in the ticket price.

The second seminar this fall features Lynda Bloom, P.Geo., President of Analytical Solutions Ltd. presenting "Assaying for Gold: sample preparation, fire assay and quality control".

Abstract: The industry-standard method to determine gold concentrations is based on techniques that date back 2,000 years. The method is complicated, labour intensive and often described as more of an art than a science. An understanding of sample preparation and analytical methods for gold results in improved assay quality control programs that minimize risk. Examples where a lack of good quality control practices resulted in a loss of company integrity will be shared.
