Family Day 2019 Roundhouse Park Tour
Event Information
About this Event
On Family Day 2019 (Monday, February 18), the Toronto Railway Museum staff will lead guests on a guided walking tour through Roundhouse Park and the various locomotives and train cars situated on the grounds. This tour will debut fully in the summer, making this event an exclusive first-look at what visitors in the summer will experience. You will have the opportunity to access the following pieces of our collection:
- GO Car cab #104, one of GO Transit's original fleet cab cars from 1967
- TH&B Caboose #70, a restored caboose built in 1913
- Cabin D, an interlocking switching station built in 1894 in Toronto
Along with access to our collection, there will be interactive aspects of the tour and guests will learn how railways significantly facilitated and enhanced the development of Toronto into the city we know today.
This tour is approximately one hour long (beginning at 2:00pm and ending approximately at 3:00pm) and will take guests on a walk through the park and into some of the passenger cars and buildings in our collection. As such, we must inform the attendees that there will be walking on uneven ground involved, as well as climbing ladders and stairs, so registrants will need to be prepared for this level of physical activity. Also as it is winter, it is recommended that guests dress warmly for the tour as the tour is mainly outdoors and the indoor segments are not heated. Public washrooms for the park can be found in the Steam Whistle Brewery.
This tour will be an excellent complement to a Family Day afternoon in Downtown Toronto. Come ready to take an insightful and inspired look into Toronto's railway past, courtesy of the staff at the Toronto Railway Museum, and the Toronto Railway Historical Association. We look forward to seeing you!
