Family Energy Fair - 2:00PM Entry - #PowerShiftWR
Event Information
Description
Join TREC Education (a leading provider of energy education programs), Let's Talk Science University of Waterloo and local community partners for a family energy fair.
Event attendees will have the opportunity to participate in activities including:
Wind 101
Participants learn about the mechanics of wind energy with model wind turbines. They find out how changing the blade size, number or angle affects the voltage output. They also witness the turbines powering LED lights! There will also be the opportunity for kids to construct and decorate their own pinwheels.
Solar 101
Participants can harness the power of the sun while learning how solar power is converted into electrical energy. They learn how solar panels are constructed and experiment with panels to generate electricity to power small devices.
Energy Scramble
Participants learn about the amount of electricity used by everyday household appliances and race to complete the energy scramble. They’ll be surprised how much some appliances use!
Captain Conductor
Participants learn about the characteristics of insulators and conductors. They can make a circuit by holding hands and testing the conduction properties of various materials using an energy ball!
Parking: Limited parking is available at Perimeter Institute. Free 2 hour parking is available in UpTown Waterloo within walking distance.
Parental/caregiver supervision required.
To ensure that all attendees have the best experience, this event has timed entry.
