FEATHERED FUN, Wednesday, July 7; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Join us on a nature walk featuring the birds of the season. Learn who’s here this time of year, learn some bird songs, then take a hike to test out your calls. Who knows, you may just call birds in to you! Location: Arboretum

INSECTS AT NIGHT, Saturday, July 10; 7 to 9 p.m. From fireflies to moonflowers to moths, learn about insects (and plants) that are at their best in the evening. Join our nature guide as we set up a moth sheet to attract night insects, then return after our hike to see what it has attracted.

SENSATIONAL SQUIRRELS, Tuesday, July 20; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Do squirrels hibernate? What does a squirrel home look like? How do squirrels hide their food? Answer these questions and more as our nature guides teach us about how squirrels live at RBG. Location: Arboretum

PLANT A SEED, Saturday, July 24; 2 to 4 p.m. Come explore the wonderful world of plants at RBG. Learn about plant adaptations, go on a hike and play games that will teach your family about the plants growing around them. Walk away with a seed starter you can grow at home and harvest by fall. Location: RBG Centre

ENCHANTED EVENING, Friday, August 6 OR Saturday, August 7; 7 to 9 p.m. Let the fun continue and experience fairies in the twilight with this family program. Be enchanted with fairy stories, fairy folklore and a candle-lit walk. Don’t miss the magic. Location: Arboretum

WHO’S BEEN HERE?, Tuesday, August 17; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. There are more animals active at RBG than you think. Learn how to interpret the clues animals leave behind to see who’s been here before you! Location: Arboretum

INSECT SAFARI, Saturday, August 21; 2 to 4 p.m. Come on a safari adventure for the whole family! Let our guide lead your family on an exploration of RBG’s trails and fields, looking for insects. Find a beetle crawling on tree bark, flip over a rock and reveal a millipede, look for ladybugs on a leaf. Come see what all the buzz is about. Location: Arboretum

SUMMER SPLENDOR, Tuesday, August 31; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Join us as a family to explore nature in the summer. Whether it’s looking for wildflowers, searching for animal homes, or listening for birds, your family is sure to enjoy this summer walk through nature. Location: Arboretum

GOING BATTY, Saturday, September 11; 7 to 9 p.m. Explore RBG after hours with our resident nature experts to discover the fascinating world of bats. This evening walk and talk will start with our experienced nature guides speaking about the different bat species that live in the gardens, their behaviours and why RBG offers them a great habitat. You will also learn about other animal species, birds and insects that call RBG home. Location: Arboretum

NATURE ROCKS, Saturday, September 25; 2 to 4 p.m. Nature is your canvas with this art-themed family event! Join us for a hike through the woods as we learn about the rocks and minerals beneath our feet, then use that knowledge to create a pocket painting inspired by RBG’s natural landscape using a mix of conventional paints and natural pigments. Location: Arboretum

Welcome Back

As we welcome our community and visitors back to experience the beauty of Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG), we are making every effort to help ensure your visit is enjoyable, entertaining and, above all, safe. Following the advice of public health authorities, there are a number of ways that our dedicated staff are safeguarding all indoor and outdoor spaces for our guests.

Please note, all programs that involve children over the age of 2 years, youth, or vulnerable populations will require all involved staff, volunteers, and participants to wear a face covering for the duration of the program, both indoors and outdoors. Thank you for your cooperation.

Here is what RBG is doing to keep you safe:

  • All staff wear masks or face coverings.
  • All high touch point surfaces are sanitized regularly.
  • Signage is posted to help visitors find their way around our gardens safely so they can physically distance from other guests.
  • Limiting program sizes to prevent overcrowding.
  • Distancing of tables at all restaurant facilities to ensure safe dining.

Here is what you can do to make your visit safe:

  • Wear a mask or other face covering when you cannot physically distance from others and during programs.
  • Follow the directional signage and one-way paths on trails and in the gardens. Please step off the trail to let others pass, avoid congregating on narrow paths, and hike in small groups.
  • Be courteous to others during your visit. For example, using benches that are being provided as rest areas and please give priority to elderly persons, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women.
