This event is open to children with ASD, their siblings, friends and caregivers only.

Spaces are limited. Registration is required.

The Potential Programme has a no transfer of care policy and, as such, parents and/or caregivers are required to stay onsite for this event.

Deep River Community Pool Swimming Policies:

Children under the age of 10 years, who are non-swimmers must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or group leaders who are at least 12 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision within a arms reach in the water. The ratio of non-swimmers to parent or guardian may be a maximum of four bathers to one parent or guardian (4:1). The ratio of non-swimmers to parent or guardian may be increased to a maximum of eight bathers to one parent or guardian (8:1) if life jackets are worn by all non-swimmers in their charge.
1.2 Children under the age of 10 years who are swimmers (able to demonstrate comfort in the water and pass the facility swim test) may be admitted to the swimming pool unaccompanied.
1.3 Children under the age of six years may not be admitted to the swimming pool unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for their direct supervision, with a maximum of two children for each parent or guardian. (2:1)
2 Procedure
2.1 All children under the age of 10 years must check in at guard office when they arrive at the community pool in order for the lifeguard on duty to check their name to see if they have passed the facility swim test or if a facility swim test is required.
3 FACILITY SWIM TESTING:
Definition
3.1 A facility swim test will consist of the child demonstrating their comfort in the water by swimming two uninterrupted widths in the shallow end of the pool. The child cannot stop to grab hold of the deck or stand up to walk. (A swimming lesson level guide would be a completion of Red Cross Swim Kids 4)
Purpose
3.2 The swim test will be conducted for children between the ages of 6-10 years of age who wish to swim without parental/guardian direct supervision during recreational swims, group bookings or a birthday party booking.
Procedure
3.3 The test will be conducted by the lifeguard on duty. Once the child has completed the test, the lifeguard will record the child’s name in the records indicating the child has passed or was incomplete for future access into the pool.
3.4 If a child failed to complete the test, the lifeguard will speak to the parent, guardian or group leader. The parent, guardian or group leader must adhere to the pool’s admission policy. Should the parent, guardian or group leader refuse to adhere to the policy, the child will not be allowed admission into the water.
3.5 The child who fails to complete the test may attempt the test again throughout the course of his/her swim or be re-tested when he/she attends his/her next swim
