Event description

Description

Dr. Donna W. Jackson, PhD, will be the guest lecturer.

Dr. Jackson has spent the last 17 years as a school administrator. She started the first School of the Arts in the Southern Crescent of Metro Atlanta featuring dance, theater, visual art, music (choral and instrumental) and media arts for grades K-5.

The focus of the lecture:

- students who participate in the arts are more engaged in life and empowered to be fulfilled, responsible citizens who can make a profound positive impact on this world

- what is key is a continued focus on students, acknowledging that positive change happens when the arts are at the core

- the mission is to position arts education as a drive for transforming students, schools and communities

- students should have the opportunity to participate in the arts, both in and out of school
