The topic this month is how we handle changing people and changing relationships. People grow and change through the years, sometimes undergoing huge transformations, and yet we are taught to expect that our relationships will always stay the same. How do we manage personal change in the context of very long-term relationships? What kinds of commitments can we make that allow for the possibility of personal growth and change? How can we achieve the stability and security we need in our lives without constraining the growth of ourselves or our loved ones? This topic is in follow up to a discussion in the Facebook group, which can be found here (if you are logged on to Facebook and a member of the group):

EVENT GUIDELINES: Doors will open at 6:30 for mingling, potluck snacks and settling in. To allow for a focused discussion, we request no arrivals or departures between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. The hostess will keep her home open until 10:30 p.m. for continued, informal chatting. Consider bringing a snack to share if you arrive during the mingling period.

Location: East Vancouver. The address will be provided to registrants. You will receive a reminder email 24 hours before the event. There are no animals at this residence, and the unit is wheelchair accessible with an elevator.

This event is capped at 14 people. A waitlist will be enabled if the event fills. In consideration of others, if you find you cannot attend, please cancel your registration: if you are an Eventbrite member, you can cancel under "My Tickets"; otherwise, email your cancellation to

The Poly Womens' meets provide a chance for polyamorous people who identify as women to get together and talk about issues specific to their relationships and to a polyamorous lifestyle. These meetings provide a forum for women to discuss issues they're dealing with and ideas/ideologies surrounding polyamory and relationships, and to get feedback from other poly women.

Guidelines for full participation:

  • To allow for a focused discussion, we request no arrivals or departures between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
  • Feel free to bring topics to discuss or to come as a supporter who will listen actively and possibly offer feedback.
  • Please be conscientious of time and make room for everyone to be heard. If you have an issue that you feel requires individual attention & a fair amount of time to deal with, request a list of poly friendly resources (such as life coaches, counsellors etc) from one of the Facebook group facilitators or from the group itself. Online is a great way to request these resources.
  • Please remember to be considerate of others' privacy and in that vein speak respectfully of others. Try not to use names or otherwise identify those you're speaking of where privacy is a concern. Remember, someone in the room may end up dating the person you're speaking about.

Vancouver Polyamorous Women's Discussion Group

We have a meet on the 2nd Monday of the month, usually in private homes, from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Most of our events are organized via our secret facebook group (not visible to all your friends), so if you would like to attend an event or join the facebook group please email us at  with a short self-introduction.

What is the difference between polyamory, polygamy and swinging? And which are you?

Polyamory is when people have multiple love/romantic relationships with the full knowledge and consent of everyone concerned. Here's more on that. That is what we are here

Polygamy is when a person marries more than one person at a time. This is usually one (older, richer) guy and multiple women or girls and is often done for religious reasons - more accurately called polygyny. This is definitely not what we are.

Swinging is typically when a couple has an agreement where they can have sex with outside people, but can have a romantic relationship only with one another. There are swinger organizations you can connect with that mostly fit heterosexual couples and bisexual women. This is also not what we are. Here's more info on swinging

I'm a journalist and I want to write a story about polyamory, can I attend or interview you?

We probably can set you up with someone to interview, but everything shared at the meets is confidential, and all attendees will be required to agree to that, so we don't want you at our meetings. Email us if you have questions.

I'd like to learn about polyamory.

There are some good resources on this site

I'm new to poly and am in a relationship looking for a third.

This is by no means the only (or most successful) way to do polyamory, particularly when starting out. Here's some info that might be helpful in avoiding the most common pitfalls. Here are some general good resources too.

About The Vancouver Polyamorous Women's Discussion Group:

This group was created for polyamorous women in the Vancouver area and is open to all polyamorous, poly-friendly or poly-curious folks who identify as women. The group welcomes women of all sexual orientations. The intention of this group is to foster a supportive community in which we can speak freely about our experiences with polyamory and discuss issues that polyamrous women face. Hopefully, this group will also serve as a catalyst for further relationships, connection and community building at large.

This group is a community group and thus is not "run" by anyone. You are invited to offer to facilitate meetings, host meetings, help with the administration of the group, plan socials or even to stir up dialogue. Each of you is invited to contribute to this group in whichever way works for you. If you have an idea about how you’d like to contribute and are uncertain about how to implement it, please contact the administrators. It is best to email all of us as we co-administrate the group.

We welcome all suggestions and comments, and hope everyone feels comfortable in volunteering in whatever capacity they so desire.

Some events require an access code, which is available to members of the group. If you wish to join the group and obtain an access code to register for meetings, email a self-introduction to
