Take a trip back in time and learn the history and practical skill of making bread in an authentic, woodfired oven.
About this event
Take a trip back in time to the 1730’s at Jean Pierre Roma’s trading post.
During this experience you will prepare a batch of bread with locally sourced ingredients, which will then be baked in Roma's authentic woodfired brick oven. And what goes better with bread than a refreshing cup of herbal tea, made with freshly harvested herbs from Roma’s heritage garden.
Participants will begin with a brief introduction to Jean Pierre Roma and his trading post, started in 1732, where we will discuss the historical importance of bread, as well as the recipes that were used.
Participants will work through the various stages of breadmaking in the Pavilion. During the intervals, while the dough is rising, participants will learn how the outdoor brick oven works and pick herbs from the garden.
Once the bread is cooked, everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Roma grounds are permitted to serve alcohol during events. A cash bar will be available with licensed servers.
