¡Festival Judío! celebrates Latino community contributions to BC culture with two big live music and dance nights focusing on Tango and Argentina on Aug 3 and then on Aug 8 on Klezmer + Samba rhythms and more from Brazil---a 5 film series from across Latin America in Spanish with English subtitles---an Art show and sale of works from Miriam Aroeste and Liliana Kleiner---Book sale--- 5 afternoon special guest lectures--1 children's story workshop.

Gotta dance? August 3 Saturday---Be tempted into TANGO! MILONGA - a tango party– doors open at 7:00 with a group tango dance lesson to warm up and refresh your moves - full evening at 8:00 p.m - 10:00 pm with musicians in live from Buenos Aires and USA. Be tempted by Tango.

Better in Brazil? August 8 Thursday--- Be energized by KLEZMER accented by the lively and sensual dance rhythms of SAMBA, MARACATU, FREVO, AFOXE and BAIÃO - doors open at 7:00 for fun group dance warm up and refresher lesson. Feel the drums and beats of the 9-piece band move you 8:00 pm till 10:00 pm. to send you off into summer’s night.

  • August 7, 4:30pm Absent but not Forgotten/ los Ausentes no son Olvidados (English and Spanish) with Helen Waldstein Wilkes & Dafne Blanco Sarlay
  • August 8 4:30pm Transgenerational Therapy with Ruben Fistemberg (Spanish & English) direct from Uruguay
  • August 9, 4:30pm The reality of the Jewish Community of Venezuela with Jack Goihman

** The children’s story workshop in both English and Spanish is presented at 1:00 p.m. August 4 by Silvana Goldemberg, educator and award-winning author of over twenty books.

** Visual art show and sale showcases pieces by local and internationally shown and collected artists -Miriam Aroeste and Liliana Kleiner, with a special piece by muralist, the late Canadian-Mexican, Arnold Belkin.

**Book sale titles primarily of selections from the University of New Mexico Press including the popular Oy, Caramba! An Anthology of Jewish Stories from Latin America Edited by Ilan Stavans.
