Fibres, Food & Medicine – Getting to Know Nettle
Overview
Join us for a two-part workshop where we’ll explore the many gifts of plants, especially Nettle, from fibre to food and medicine.
In part one, you’ll learn how to create cordage and raw fibres from Nettle and other plants you can grow or forage. We’ll introduce the process of transforming these fibres into yarn, thread, and fabric, yes, even the process behind the much-talked-about nettle dress. Expect plenty of demonstrations and a chance to try out some techniques yourself.
Part two is a deeper dive into our plant relative Nettle. We’ll explore how to grow Nettle and get to know its medicinal and edible properties. Together we’ll enjoy a tea and tincture tasting exercise, and each participant will take home a packet of Nettle seeds to begin growing your own.
Grow your own clothing, food, and medicine, while also supporting pollinators and butterflies.
