50by30 Waterloo Region is calling on all allies to join us in support of the TransformWR Climate Action Strategy that is currently under review by local councils, along with advocating for a more ambitious near-term, science-based climate target of a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 (50by30). This Climate Action Strategy has been years in development and is an important and exciting starting point to guide regional climate action in the years ahead, and so we are advocating that council pass this strategy immediately to catalyze the work ahead. To get this strategy passed, we need all supporters to join us in 'filling the room' in the City of Cambridge's virtual council chambers on June 8th, 5pm.

Currently, the Strategy calls the cities and region to exceed a recommended 30% reduction target by 2030 - this is an important start, however to do our part in the global community and ensure a safe climate future, we know we truly need to reach (and exceed!) the science-based target of 50by30. Ways to support 50by30, and ensure the TransformWR Strategy gets passed:

• Send an email, tweet and/or call elected council members to show support for the TransformWR Strategy, and advocate for a near-term target of 50by30 (public communications toolkit here, media here)
• Register to let us know you'll be joining virtually for the council meeting to show your support. Plan to attend the council meeting to be streamed online on YouTube live so council sees there is lots of support, and consider speaking in support to council (below).
• Register for a brief delegation to council (i.e. speaking to council) - to do this, fill out the delegation request form before noon on June 8th. To support delegates, 50by30 is hosting pre-delegation meetings on Tuesday, June 1st, 10-11am, and Thursday, June 3rd, 7-8pm.
• Sign the 50by30 Petition in support
• Sign up for our bi-weekly newsletter on our home page for further opportunities to support
• Have your organization pledge support for 50by30 here
