Learn how you can be empowered by your finances
We are hosting a series of financial literacy workshops that will provide a shame-free and inclusive space to talk about money. You will leave feeling financially empowered and have answers to all the questions you might have around finances.
The Workshops
These workshops are being offered through a pay-what-you-can model to make it accessible. They are suitable for university students and young professionals. We especially encourage women and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community to partake.
Workshops will happen on a weekly basis from 6-8 PM MST and will be held online.
There will be a series of 8 workshops:
Workshop 1 - Spending (January 25)
- Understand your money habits
- Get control of your spending
Workshop 2 - Debt (February 1)
- Methods for paying down debt
- How to increase your credit score
Workshop 3 - Saving (February 8)
- Methods to help you save
- How to build an emergency fund
Workshop 4 - Budgeting (February 15)
- Tools
- Strategies
Workshop 5 - Investing (February 22)
- Learn about TFSA, RRSP, etc.
- When and how to start investing
Workshop 6 - Taxes (March 1)
- How refunds, deductions, and credits work
- Reducing your tax burden
Workshop 7 - Retirement (March 8)

Workshop 8 - Financial planning (March 15)

Registration or donation also provides you with a comprehensive workbook of exercises and resources.
Our Goal
Hosted by Rotary 21, Prosperous People Foundation, and Immigrant Services Calgary, all proceeds will be donated to the Centre for Newcomers in order to raise $20,000 to sponsor an Afghan woman to resettle in Canada. Learn more here: (https://www.centrefornewcomers.ca/support-afghan-refugees).

The Presenter
The workshops are being facilitated by Katherine Martens, an accountant with multiple years of experience in various accounting roles and consulting work with small businesses. She is the Founder of the Prosperous People Foundation, a non-profit organization whose vision for the future is to have every woman and member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community be financially empowered.
